Why Do I Have to Go See the Dentist Twice a Year
Time may be moving quickly for you because of obligations at work or with your family, but it's a good idea to get your teeth checked every six months so that your mouth stays healthy. A lot of dental problems can crop up in six months- from cavities to gum disease to an abscess. Seeing a dentist every six months means that you stay on top of any small issues in your mouth before they become big problems.
Are You Brushing?
If you aren't brushing twice a day, this is a good time to start. Be sure that you are using a soft toothbrush to protect your enamel and gums. Also, be sure that you are using fluoride toothpaste to give your teeth as much protection as possible. You may want to give your back teeth, called molars, a longer brushing since those are the teeth where most cavities occur.
What About Flossing?
Many people- over 40% of all adults- don't floss properly. If you are not sure you're flossing the right way, you may want to invest in a mechanical flosser that uses water rather than string to floss your teeth. You can also use handheld flossers, which are easier to maneuver in your mouth. Just like brushing, pay particular attention to your back teeth, and work in-between each tooth and gum section carefully to get rid of particles and plaque.
Write Down Questions
If there are issues in your mouth that you want to ask the dentist about, now is a great time to write them down. That way, you'll have them in your hand when you talk to the dentist, so you don't forget to ask.
