Foods That Reduce Stains on Your Teeth

Posted on 7/13/2019 by Elmwood Dental Group
Foods That Reduce Stains on Your TeethThere are certain foods that are known to cause stains on your teeth. These include things like pasta sauce, curry, balsamic vinegar, berries, coffee, teas, sports drinks, and wine.

To keep your teeth looking their best, you'll want to do your best to avoid these foods and drinks. Unfortunately, this isn't always possible, which is why you should know of some other ways you can keep your teeth bright, white, and shiny.

Foods That Help Give you a Brighter Smile

In the same way that there are foods that will diminish the quality and appearance of your teeth there are also some foods that will make them look whiter and brighter. These are foods that contain natural fiber – a substance that's known to help clean your teeth and remove bacteria from your mouth. Foods with this quality include apples, cucumbers, pears, cauliflower, celery, and carrots. Make sure your diet includes plenty of them.

Other Tips to Help Make Your Teeth Look Better

Besides including more of these foods in your diet, there are other things you can do too. For instance, if you still want to drink coffee, teas, sports drinks, and wine, make sure you drink them through a straw. Doing so will minimize the amount of time they come into contact with your teeth and thus reduce the amount of stains and damage they can do.

Maintaining good oral hygiene (brushing and flossing twice a day) also help remove most surface stains. Unfortunately, there will still be times when you'll encounter some stains that are a bit more stubborn and thus they'll require the use of a whitening system. You can try one of the over-the-counter options, but since they contain bleach or peroxide, in-office treatments are much less abrasive, which is why they're preferred by many people.
