Most people enjoy eating blueberries, blackberries, and other similar berries. And, without a question, these berries deliver a number of health benefits. They are rich in fiber, vitamins, and cancer fighting antioxidants. But what do you do if you like berries, but you are trying to preserve the appearance of your teeth? Anyone can tell you that blueberries will stain your teeth faster than almost anything else. Yet, unless you are ready to drop these foods altogether, you will need a way to eat them without staining your teeth. Here is some information that may be of some use to you. Be Mindful of Your SurroundingsThe best thing we can tell our patients (and our readers) is to be aware where you are when you decide to enjoy berries. If you are in a place where you can easily brush soon after eating them, then you should not have any issues with staining. Even if you can't actually brush, if you can vigorously swish around some water in your mouth, it should help reduce the staining.Consider Planning Your Times to Enjoy BerriesWe sometimes tell our patients to plan out when they will eat things such as blueberries. That way, you will be prepared with a toothbrush nearby. In doing this, you can continue to reap the health benefits of these wonderful foods without dealing with any permanent residual staining. If you do find yourself in a spot where you cannot brush, and you do not have access to water to help rinse away any stains, you might want to consider holding off on the berries. Another option would be to carefully place them in your mouth and only chew with the very back teeth, as these are not highly visible anyways.
