It is very important to establish good oral health habits in children as early as possible. By learning to brush and floss from a very young age, children will understand the importance of oral hygiene, and be able to do their part in maintaining a healthy mouth. Setting these habits can be a bit of a challenge, so here are a few tips to make brushing and flossing fun therefore encourage kids to do so.
Make it Fun
There are countless themed dental products on the market. These range from manual toothbrushes shaped like popular characters to electric models that almost look like Pez dispensers complete with sound effects. The same goes for character-inspired dental rinses to use after brushing. Let your child pick their toothbrush or pick one you know they will love. This provides a child with something they can relate to and will enjoy using.
Once you have introduced a fun toothbrush, make sure your child uses it. It is recommended to brush twice a day for two minutes, so turn those two minutes into fun time. There are countless songs available online designed just to get kids to brush their teeth. Search for some of these songs with your child to find their favorites and create a random playlist so they never know what they will hear. Not only is this like a game, it's full of surprises to keep your child engaged.
Be Like Mom or Dad
Children love to mimic their parents, and this is a great way to teach them good habits. Buy your child a stool so you can brush your teeth together. This is also a perfect opportunity to teach your child how to brush and floss correctly. To make it a memorable game, let your child brush your teeth for you.
By using these three tips your child will actually want to brush and floss. Just make it fun and turn it into a game that little ones will want to play every day.
