Dental Sedation Will Transform Your Kids' Dental Visit
Posted on 11/22/2021 by Elmwood Dental Group
It is normal that some children feel a certain level of insecurity regarding dental procedures, therefore, in our offices we offer them different levels of sedation to help with their comfort, thus transforming the experience of the consultation. One of the safest methods for them is using laughing gas, or nitrous oxide, but there are many more. Keep reading to learn more about them.
General Anesthesia
This type of sedation requires our specialized anesthesiology staff, in addition to our dentist who will perform the treatment. The child will be completely asleep, so it will be a pain-free experience.
Deep Sedation with IV
Intravenous medications are also useful to help the comfort of children in their dental visits. Our anesthesiologists will be constantly checking the well-being of the patient while our dentist does his work. The child will be asleep, but will still make some movements and noises.
Mild to Moderate Sedation
Our dentist will apply a light sedation, which produces a state of relaxation in the child, without losing complete consciousness. The patient can move and respond, and the help of our anesthesiologist staff is not necessary.
Nitrous Oxide
This chemical is in a gaseous state, mixed with oxygen, creating a mild sedative effect when inhaled by the child, relaxing and calming him; and most importantly, leaving him pain free. It is a sensation similar to floating. It is also known as laughing gas, as it produces a giggling effect in patients who inhale it, as well as being the least invasive type of sedation. Our dentists will adjust the dose depending on the response of the child, and once removed, its effect culminates in a couple of minutes without complications.
Our dentist will discuss with our patients all these options, explaining the details of each one and the whole procedure. Visit our offices to offer your children the best alternatives in sedation, and thus give them a positive experience taking care of their teeth.
