Fillings Can Become Loose, So If Yours Does, Here is What You Do

Fillings Can Become Loose, So If Yours Does, Here is What You DoDental fillings are an effective method used to fix damaged teeth. However, they are not perfect and could become faulty due to various reasons. For instance, dental fillings could become loose due to reasons like chewing too hard, decay around them, or poor oral health. In case your fillings become loose we will conduct an oral exam and apply the correct treatment option.

Do An Oral Exam

The first thing we will do when you come to us with loose dental fillings is perform an oral exam. We do this to determine the level of damage and the right treatment plan. Furthermore, we also check if the loose fillings have caused any damage to the surrounding teeth. If that is the case, the treatment plan will also include the affected teeth. Knowing the cause of the loosening is also crucial. During the oral exam, we will check whether there is an underlying condition that contributed to the loosening. For instance, if your fillings became loose due to tooth decay, we will also focus on treating it in order to avoid reoccurrence.

Applying the Correct Treatment Option

We shall choose a treatment option depending on the condition of dental fillings. If the fillings have minor damage that was probably caused by biting on hard foods, we will only repair them. We do so by realigning the damaged area to restore its functionality. On the other hand, if the fillings are damaged beyond repair, we will replace them with new dental fillings. This is important because it helps restore the functionality of your tooth. If the loosening was caused by tooth decay, we will treat it first then apply new dental fillings. This is done to ensure you don't experience the same fate after a short time. Schedule a consultative appointment with us for more information on dental fillings.
