Botox For TMJ Pain

Posted on 6/20/2022 by Elmwood Dental Group
Botox For TMJ PainTMJ pain and headaches may be treated with the same great equipment. It is feasible with Botox. Botox is well recognized for its aesthetic applications. It may quickly smooth out wrinkles and eliminate years from your face. Did you know it can also help with headaches and clenching and grinding? Botox is used to treat TMJ issues caused by overworked closure muscles. It isn't the primary therapy for all sorts of TMJ issues, such as arthritis in the jaw joint, but it does assist greatly usually.

It Provides Relief

Sore muscles, painful jaws, tooth sensitivity, and tension headaches can all result from grinding and clenching. Furthermore, Botox stops you from accidentally putting too much pressure. All that strain in your jaw is the equivalent of contracting your bicep as much as you can and then holding it there. Botox allows those muscles to recover to their natural degree of tension and relax when they need to! Botox injections for therapeutic purposes will not fully paralyze those major chewing muscles. Only a few muscle fibers in the masseters and temporalis are injured because of overuse. You will, however, be able to utilize your jaw normally because it will not be overfiring on its own.

How it Works

First, speak with your dental specialists about your concerns. Please tell our office if you suspect you are grinding or clenching your teeth, or if you are experiencing other symptoms like headaches or shattered teeth. If you and your dentist decide that Botox is correct for you, the procedure is straightforward. While we recognize that most people are afraid of needles, even the most injection-phobic patients find Botox to be quick and painless. The needle is exceedingly little and thin. When most people put on a wool sweater, they experience static electricity. Furthermore, although aesthetic Botox requires several injection sites to address the multitude of small muscles that generate wrinkles, therapeutic Botox generally only requires two to four on each. It's over in a flash. Botox in combination with a nightguard may significantly transform the lives of many individuals.

However, keep in mind that it does wear off with time and may need to be reapplied on a regular basis. Everyone's timetable is different, but most patients discover that they can space out their treatments more and more as time goes on. Please contact us if you have any queries about Botox for TMJ discomfort. And, while we're on the subject, if you want to learn about cosmetics, we've got you covered. We look forward to assisting you in attaining optimal jaw health.
