Posted on 2/6/2023 by Elmwood Dental Group
Signs of bruxismMost people suffer from bruxism unknowingly as they tend to grind and clench their teeth at night. Occasional grinding of the teeth is excellent; however, the frequent occurrence of the same should be taken with care s it may be a sign of bruxism. The condition harms your oral condition by affecting your jaw muscles, teeth and temporomandibular joints. Different types of Bruxism are described below:

Awake Bruxism

This condition happens during the day when patients grind or clench their teeth due to emotional problems. Experts link awake bruxism with anxiety and depression because people suffering from such conditions may grind their teeth while thinking deeply about them. Our dentists recommend noticing the vent yourself and striving to manage the prevailing situations that may cause bruxism. However, if the condition persists, our dentists are always willing to step up and offer interventions.

Sleep Bruxism

This condition is the worst type of bruxism as one never knows whether they are doing it or not. Therefore, one may fail to visit the dentist, damaging their jaws and teeth. Most people having sleep bruxism have been linked with morning headaches.

Symptoms of Bruxism

The common signs of having a bruxism condition are loud grinding or clenching of your teeth, which your partner may often hear. During the day, one may even notice grinding their teeth, especially when in deep thoughts. Due to the friction involved in the grinding actions, one is characterized by cracked and chipped teeth, which have a rough feeling when a tongue passes over them. Frequent and excessive grinding or clenching of the teeth results in tired jaw muscles or even locked jaw that inhibit the usual closure and opening of your mouth. Morning headaches, especially for people with sleep bruxism and sharp sensitivity issues when taking cold or hot foods and beverages.

Bruxism is quite hazardous to your dental health; when you experience such signs, please visit our practices for quality intervention services. Contact our offices today to book an appointment with us.
