Partial Dentures for Tooth LossWhen you are missing a section of teeth, we can replace those teeth with partial dentures. Partial dentures are a removable prosthesis, similar to full dentures. They are a traditional treatment for replacing missing teeth. Partial dentures consist of false teeth set into a base that is made from an impression of your mouth. The teeth are made of an acrylic resin, which provides a more realistic appearance. The base is made from a gum colored acrylic that is supported by your gums. Metal clasps attach to your healthy teeth, which help to provide additional support. If you are a candidate, we can fabricate partial dentures with no metal. They are more lightweight and flexible than traditional partial dentures. Adjusting to Your New Partial DenturesIt does take some time to adjust to partial dentures. When you first get them, they may feel a little strange or uncomfortable. There are things you can do to facilitate the process. Avoiding certain types of foods, in the beginning, can be exceptionally helpful. Stay away from foods that are hard, crunchy, and chewy. Cut larger pieces of food into more manageable pieces. As you get used to your new dentures, you can gradually resume eating your favorite foods. You may also need to relearn how to speak. In the beginning, your dentures may feel strange and can affect your speech. Continuing to practice will help you adjust faster. Keep in mind, while some discomfort is common in the beginning, dentures should begin to feel more natural as time goes on. Taking Care of Your Partial DenturesYour new partial dentures will require some special care every night. They will need to be removed to be properly cleaned. Before taking out your partial denture, lay down a towel or fill your sink with water. Carefully remove your denture and clean them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and denture paste. Do not use toothpaste. Toothpaste contains abrasives, which can cause small scratches in your restoration. Rinse your dentures and set in a glass with a denture cleaning solution. They should be left to soak overnight while you sleep. This gives your gums an opportunity to rest. In the morning, rinse your dentures before you set them back into your mouth.
